With the anatomy series my intention was to bring the cold clinical fact of anatomy into a warmer and artistic light. The human body is one of the most fascinating and complexly compelling pieces of machinery. For every question that science has answered about the body, two more questions appear. This creates a magical and mystical atmosphere to the how the body runs and is put together. It’s fascinating to think that just under the skin we are all basically the same. Your bones are my bones, and my bones are yours.
But the body also has a darker side … its also slightly terrifying.
We walk around all day with our muscles and bones, but if we pierce our skin our bodies suddenly seem like a foreign objects. The very things that are exposed after death and decay are the very things that keeps us together, and make us who we are. It’s magical and horrifying all at the same time.
The Grasping Watcher represents the constant presence of our own bodies, cut your skin and your body will remind you its there. It’s slightly menacing and thoughtful … and always watching you.
