Guitar Gear and Andi McCoy

Happy 4th you MOFOs! Hope your having a good one our there today. I just got back from a big party bash and now it’s time to chill.

Let’s talk about guitars.

As you can tell I love them. And I love to play them. I don’t clam to be any good, but my playing beats your guitar hero any day .

Let’s talk about Gibson guitars. Gibson guitars were started by Orville Gibson in Michigan around the turn of the century. Orville disliked the traditional and fragile design of classical mandolins, and so decided to modify the design. His modifications produced a better sounding and easier to manufacture instrument. Orville was considered to be somewhat eccentric and never really benefited from his innovations. He wandered in and out of hospitals until his death in 1918.

Whatever he did to that first mandolin carried over into the next century. Around the 1930’s flamingo music started to become poplar in the US and brought about the first electric guitar the Gibson ES-150. After that musicians began to experiment with the new electric sounding guitar and the rest is kind of history. Oh … except Gibson almost went out of business in 1985. It’s now privately owned.

In my guitar dreams I dream of three things:

1. Gibson SG – Goddess or not it’s still one of the coolest fucking guitars (think AC/DC’s guitarist Angus Young)
2. Gibson Les Paul – always classic, but a little to heavy for me. I’ll worship from afar.
3. A decent amp that does not buzz, is compatible with my computer, and that I can actually carry from my second story apartment to my car (I haven’t found one yet when I do I’ll list it)

Short list but I can dream. I can also dream of having more time to play. Cause I suck, but I love playing
