Singing Is Like Walking Around Naked …

I don’t think people realize how hard it is to put yourself out there when singing. The ultimate attempt is to entertain and bring a little levity to an otherwise dreary day. And that’s it peeps! Nothing really to it at all. The singer sings, you listen and enjoy … or not, maybe someone gets payed and that’s it. But singing is really a personal thing. It’s the only instrument I know that is physically attached to your body.

This also creates a lot of undue emotional attachment to the instrument. At least a guitar player has a distance between himself and his music. If he sucks for a show it could be that his guitar did not function properly, something went awry … but it can be fixed. If you don’t like someones voice it seems to be a more personal. But everyone is a critic and what one person likes another person dislikes. And singing it just a tool like everything else.

I’m mentioning this because I probably just did one of the stupidest things ever. I taped myself sining a song by the rock cellist group Apocalyptica. There’s a contest going on were you get to sing with them. I think the song is cool and talks about child abuse, and why the hell not. But here’s the thing. It’s written for a dude and my voice is too trained, and I’m not singing my own stuff … oh and laptop microphones suck ass. And I look like crap (I didn’t think about appearance before I taped you think in this day and age I would have. I’m an ass).

Why in the hell am I doing this? Well I believe that everything should be tried at least once, you can learn a lot from doing something really stupid. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder and car crashes are beautiful. But this just might be one of the stupidist things I have ever done.

Singing is like walking out naked in traffic. So naked that you can feel the wind between your legs and your but crack. Well maybe it’s time to walk around naked … I’m so gonna get burnt.
