Saint Sebastian Anterograde

Saint Sebastian got shot with a bunch of arrows and didn’t die. Cause for sainthood? Defense against the plague, and conversions. He also makes a really sweet painting, and has a wikipedia page. I’ve always loved the paintings.
On a recent trip to the Louvre I was able to view live and in person St. Sebastian by Andrea Mantegna. It was absolutely magnificent to see it in person. It was at least seven to eight feet tall and the colors are so much more vibrant in person than in a photograph. I was just always fascinated by the depiction of a bound saint filled with arrows. And apparently I’m not the only one … R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion” anyone ?
